Most interest dies here, not because people said no, but because nobody said anything next. This stage is about having a specific next question.

Why this one first

This is the earliest stage your answers marked as broken, and that ordering matters. A problem here starves every stage after it, so fixing something downstream tends to produce no visible change at all. Everything after it — Conversion — stays capped until this is working.

Fix this first

Replace "just checking in" with a real question about what they saw. Ask what stood out, then how interested they actually are. Both are easy to answer and both tell you what to do next.

People say they will look and you never hear back.
You are unsure whether following up again is helpful or annoying, so you do nothing.
You cannot remember who is waiting on what.
"Just checking in" is your only follow-up message.

What usually causes it

No structure, so following up feels like nagging rather than continuing.
Asking closed questions that a busy person can end with one word.
No record of where each person got to.
Following up on your schedule rather than in response to something they did.

What this stage is not

If people stay engaged and interested but never actually commit, that is Conversion.
