Scripts for the messages people freeze on
Wording, not magic. These are starting points to adapt to how you actually talk — a script that does not sound like you will not work however good it is.
What we don't claim. We have not measured response rates for these and would not publish figures we could not stand behind. They reflect a principle we think is right — ask before you send — not a tested conversion rate.
Openers
Reopen a conversation without opening with a pitch. None of these mention what you do. Stage: Contact →
Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a good one.
Hey — you popped into my head today. How have you been? Still at [company//place]?
Thanks for jumping in on that post — I liked what you said about [thing]. Are you into [topic] generally, or was that a one-off?
The two-step ask
The single highest-value change most people can make: ask permission first, send the link only after they say yes. Two short messages instead of one long one. Stage: Contact →
Not sure if this is your kind of thing, but I've been working on something on the side. I've got a short video that explains it better than I can in a message — want me to send it over?
Here it is: [link]. It's about [length]. Let me know what you think once you've had a look.
Would it be alright if I sent you something to look at? No pressure either way — just easier than explaining it in messages.
Follow-up
Replace "just checking in" with a question that is easy to answer. The order matters: find out what registered, then how interested they are. Stage: Follow-up →
Did anything in that stand out to you?
What part made the most sense to you?
On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is 'I want to start', where would you put yourself right now?
That's fair. What would need to be true for it to be a higher number?
Would it help to talk to someone who's actually doing this? I can introduce you — no pressure, just easier than hearing it all from me.
No worries if this isn't for you — just didn't want to leave it hanging. Shall I close the loop on it?
Re-engagement
For people who went quiet weeks or months ago. Short, no guilt, easy to ignore. Stage: Follow-up →
This is a while after the fact — you looked at something I sent back in [month]. Timing might be better now, might not. Worth another look?
You looked at this a while back and it wasn't right then. [What changed] since. Thought of you — want the updated version?
Common objections
Answer the question actually asked. Do not pre-empt objections nobody raised — it introduces doubt that was not there. Stage: Conversion →
Fair question, and worth asking. Here's how it actually works: [plain explanation]. Have a look and decide for yourself — I'd rather you check than take my word for it.
Completely understand. Can I ask — is it that the timing is wrong, or that it's not something you'd want to do at all? Either answer is fine, it just tells me whether to mention it again.
How did that go? Genuinely asking — if it went badly I'd rather know what put you off before I send you anything.
Of course. Is there something specific you're unsure about? Happy to answer it now rather than leave you working it out alone.
