Stage 02 of 6 · your earliest bottleneck
Leads — “My list is random people, not buyers.”
A large list of the wrong people performs worse than a small list of the right ones. This stage is about who is on your list, not how many.
Why this one first
This is the earliest stage your answers marked as broken, and that ordering matters. A problem here starves every stage after it, so fixing something downstream tends to produce no visible change at all. Everything after it — Prospecting, Contact, Follow-up, Conversion — stays capped until this is working.
Fix this first
Decide who you are actually trying to reach, specifically enough to name where they already gather. Then add people from there deliberately. A list you chose beats a list that accumulated.
You are probably in this stage if
- Your friends list or contacts came from whoever accepted, not from anyone you chose.
- Nobody on your list has ever shown interest in what you actually do.
- You have contacts but no way to tell the interested from the indifferent.
- You bought a list and it went nowhere.
What usually causes it
- Adding indiscriminately. Volume feels like progress and produces an audience with nothing in common.
- Buying lists without checking how they were built, how old they are, or whether those people ever agreed to be contacted.
- No record of who is who, so every contact starts from zero.
- Confusing an audience with a list — people who follow you are not the same as people you can reach directly.
What this stage is not
If you already know exactly who to talk to and still are not talking to them, the bottleneck is Contact.
